Barcelona have completed the signing of Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong.
De Jong had strongly been linked with moves to Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain but has agreed a switch to Camp Nou. He will join Barcelona in the summer.
Barcelona have agreed to pay an initial €75m for the midfielder, Ajax have confirmed. With bonuses, the fee could rise to €86m.
De Jong, 21, made his Eredivisie debut for Willem II back in May 2015 before joining Ajax that summer.
He has since become a crucial member of Ajax’s team, making 28 appearances in all competitions this season alone.
De Jong was also handed his Netherlands debut back in June and has since won five caps for his country.
The midfielder will get a small taste of Spain with Ajax this season, as the Dutch giants have been drawn against Barcelona’s fierce rivals Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League.
